I plan on applying to a few masters in my current university. I don’t want this to be a dicussion about why I’m doing it, but I’d like some help on the personal statement I’m writing.
If you could spare some time, look through the brief of the course in the link. If you were applying to this, what interesting points could you think of that would stand out in a PS. Its been ages since I wrote one of these, but what I could remember most people wrote lots of bullshit about wanting to do this since they were no more than a fetus. I seemed to have lost that streak..
So please help, I’m running quite late in applying already. And no witty comments please. This is a very very serious mother fuck.
That course looks awesome
You should take a gap year then do it with me baby

back to the point!
You could talk about a certain film for a bit, maybe say how it affected you etc. How it made you want to dive deeper into film production - talk abotu your musical background, link it to movies - how important a movie score is and so forth.

Personal Statement
My name is Andrew Chu and I am an international student studying in the UK. I originally came from Hong Kong SAR, but moved to London three years ago to pursue a higher education. I am currently finishing my final year in University of Westminster’s Commercial Music BA Hons degree.
Having grown up in a circle of friends that had considerable ties with the local arts, I was exposed to a wide range of discussions and ideas about film, and I came to develop my own thinking towards the subject.
Film, much like any artistic medium, explores not only theory and culture, but more importantly dives deep into investigating and portraying life, relationships, memoires and experiences. It is an art form, if not accomplished with passion, is meaningless. In this way, I have always hoped to pursue a career in the arts with that mentality, whatever the line of work may be.
However, having said this, I originally wanted to pursue music after leaving sixth form. Music has been my primary hobby ever since I could remember. I played in many bands in my teenage years, and more recently produce music on my own; it is very much a part of my life.
The way I see it, the artist, whether it be a musician or filmmaker, pours his or her soul into the work. When it is finished, it becomes someone else’s property, to choose to do with what they will, to relate to it in their own way or be inspired to create their own. On most occasions, artists are never completely satisfied with the work they made. I wanted to guide others in producing their own work to a standard they were happy with. In order to do this, I needed to learn about the workings of audio production.
I applied to a music technology school called Gateway School of Recording for a bachelor’s degree in Audio Technology and Music Business Studies; validated by City University. This was where I first had exposure to film related theories such as Sound Design; for example, Walter Murch’s work on Apocalypse Now.
After studying there for two years and about to start my third, the college unexpected went bankrupt, and it seemed like we were left without any options to complete our degrees. Fortunately, I was able to apply and happily get into the Commercial Music course here at Westminster University before term started. For the past year, I was able to concentrate on projects and plan what I wanted to do to further my career. One particular module, Industry Brief, provided me a more hands-on approach to working with film, and appreciate the importance of the score and sound design.
I realized with the state of economy now, it would be difficult to find a job in the music industry that has any real career prospects. This is not to say I have given up on a music career, but merely to further my horizons with studies in a field where I am very interested and passionate about. Finally, I wish to pursue a prestigious and well-taught MA in Film and Television so that I can contribute to the industry in UK or HK.
Lets see how many grammar mistakes you can pick out? :P

However, having said this, I originally wanted to pursue (you're saying 'pursue' alot) music after leaving sixth form. Music has been my primary hobby ever since I could remember. The way I see it, the artist, whether it be a musician or filmmaker, pours his or her soul into the work. When it is finished, it becomes someone else’s property, to choose to do with what they will(not sure this makes sense), to relate to it in their own way or be inspired to create their own. On most occasions, artists are never completely satisfied with the work they made(make). I wanted to guide others in producing their own work to a standard they were happy with. In order to do this, I needed to learn about the workings of audio production.
