As someone who got into comics about a year ago, Im with anyone who wonders 'I like Batman/Superman/Aqualad but where do I start? Joining an ongoing series is hard enough with a TV show, but with comics it can be a nightmare...all those different titles and crossovers...no wonder most of us pick up the more classic trades (collected volumes).
For Batman its typically been Hush, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory...any of you who has bought a Batman book has probably bought one of those quality works. But whats going on in Batman right NOW?
I'll give you a brief, probably utter crap, summary.
Bruce Wayne is dead.
And I'm not talking fell into a river vanished dead. He's dead.
As Gotham plunged into borderline anarchy for the nth time, the Bat-Clan took it amongst themselves to 'fight' for the right to wear the cowl.
Eventually, not surprising anyone, it fell to Dick Greyson (the first Robin), who for years shunned the thought of ever having to be the Dark Knight.
Batman is dead.
Long live Batman!
Yesterday saw the release of 'Batman and Robin', the first in a series of issues written by Grant Morrison (comics legend and the Batman writer) with fantastic fucking art by Frank Quitely.
Dick now wears the cowl, with Bruce's bastard child Damian as Robin. How will the new team play out? Will they ever stop fighting among each other?
Meanwhile a new villain known as Pyg enters Gotham, and he is fucking terrifying!
Shit is going to go down! And you can follow it!
